Arvind Mediratta, a retail visionary and the MD &CEO of METRO Cash &Carry, has made a remarkable mark in the country’s retail and wholesale space. From setting up a wholesale company in India ground up, to turning around the fortunes of a loss-making company to a profitable billion-dollar company in India; Arvind has been credited as the ‘transformation specialist’ in the industry!
As one of the prominent leaders of the Indian retail sector and as the Chairperson of FICCI Retail and Internal Trade committee, Arvind has been a vocal proponent of providing a level playing field for small retailers and kiranas who form the backbone of the Indian retail industry. He has been extremely vocal about the existential challenge that physical retailers face due to the unsustainable business practices of new age retail, ecommerce/ quick commerce, and has voiced the need to expedite the National Retail Policy to ring-fence the interest of small retailers in India.

During the pandemic, Arvind campaigned hard with government administration and bureaucracy, making several rounds of representations to recognize kiranas, small retailers and the retail workforce as ‘frontline workers’ and prioritize their vaccinations in the phase one of the vaccination drive in 2021.
In various leadership dialogues, forums and opinion articles with leading media houses; Arvind has been escalating the challenges that the retail sector faces and has been a staunch advocate for bestowing an ‘industry status’ to the Retail sector, and creating a separate ‘Retail Ministry’ to help address all the operational issues for the sector and for better ease of doing business.
